INDOOR MARKET this Wed., Dec. 14

////////////////////////////////

HAPPY WINTER HOLIDAYS TO ONE AND ALL!

Come enjoy the INDOOR Canterbury Community Farmers’ Market this Wednesday, December 14, from 4-6:30pm in the historic Town Hall, Canterbury Center (of course)!

Once again we will have a full house, and shoppers had best be prepared to rub shoulders with their neighbors while browsing all the goodies. Prepare to stock up for good eating throughout the colder months, and don’t forget to bring several canvas bags, your appetite, and a list of what you need for Christmas and winter holiday presents.

You will be pleased to find the same excellent selection of vendors who attended the November Market. Goods for sale include (but aren’t limited to) veggies and fruit, breads both sweet and savory, meats, jams & jellies, eggs, maple products, wine, homemade candy and fudge, soap, woolens, woodenware, crafts, & more!

The MARKET PICK will be ONIONS.

RECIPE: Caramelized Onion and Sweet Potato Soup

Sweet and earthy, this soup goes great with homemade bread (which you can buy at the Farmers’ Market if you like)!

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

2 tablespoon butter

5 large sweet onions, thinly sliced1 1/2 tablespoon sugar

4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed

2 quarts chicken broth

1/2 teaspoon ground allspice

1/2 teaspoon thyme

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions:

1. In a large pot over medium-high heat, melt the margarine or butter.

2. Add the onions and cook, stirring constantly, for 5 to 7 minutes, or until browned.

3. Add the sugar and cook, stirring, for 3 minutes longer.

4. Add the sweet potatoes, broth, allspice, thyme, nutmeg, salt, and pepper and bring to a boil.

5. Quickly reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer, uncovered, for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the sweet potato pieces are fork-tender.

6. Adjust the seasonings and serve.

Note: For a smoother soup, transfer the ingredients to a food processor after the ingredients are fork-tender and puree in batches, or use an immersion blender.

The winner will be announced at the close of market, and you do not need to be present to win — though it sure would be fun if you were!)Proceeds go to support the 2012 season of the Canterbury Community Farmers’ Market.

AROUND THE MARKET

THE BELMONT HIGH FRENCH CLUB is collecting recipes for their J’Adore! French Exchange Cookbook. They would love to showcase the cooking talents from our region, and help their students at the same time. See yourself in print along with your friends and neighbors when the French Club publishes and sells this cookbook in February, 2012.

Copy, email, or mail them your favorite recipes for publication. They will type and format the recipes for you. Submit your recipes with any information you'd like with them such as your name, the recipe source, and any special tips. The recipes don’t have to be French, just delicious!

If you are a local business that would like to be showcased in the cookbook, they are offering full-page ad space in the back of the cookbook for $5. Your ad space includes a fold out page for business coupons or special offers. The cookbook will be 8 1/2 x S 1/2 and spiral bound to lay flat.

To submit your recipes or order ad space:

Email: RaeLipshuItz@comcast.net

Call Rae: (603) 783-9686

Mail to: Madame Takantjas, Belmont High, 255 Seavey Rd., Belmont, NH, 03220

Checks for ads may be made out to Belmont High School French Club

***Note: Proceeds from J’Adore! Will go to help Belmont and Canterbury French Exchange students raise $2,000 each to go to France in April, 2012.***
